Clearance tip

What’s hot now and can be bought on promotion this year that can still be worn next year? The ankle sandal/boot. I absolutely love the styles above and please notice the gladiator styling influence, peep-toe details, flat outsoles, and multi-strap buckles.

What is inspiring me...

The 50's are being the inspiration for many designers this winter 08 season with sophisticathed below-the-knee sheath dresses and sleek outfits.
However, my inspiration is coming from the 50's muses such as Grace Kelly and their jewelry collection. The luxury of the chandeliers earrings and diamond necklaces are really inspiring me...

CHANEL Winter ad

I absolutely LOVE the combination of the muded colors and the double-colored tights on this Chanel ad featured on the Aug 08 Vogue

Milano Fashion Global Summit

Milano Fashion Global Summit 2007

In the annual luxury conference in Milan last year, the importance of the retail luxury was discussed and there are some important points that are current today and I would like to discuss as they apply to the fashion industry:

-The luxury brands are embracing the idea of global concept stores. There is a shift in the way the stores put the product in a context. The new centers of luxury are multi-floor complexes selling not only apparel but moving into accessories, interiors, etc. As an example is the Armani Tokyo’s 6,000sqm store that will open with a club, florist, homeware section and more.
-Diego Della Valle, CEO of Tod’s explained: “The message that you convey is the idea of a dream. You build a temple. A store today in not just a way to sell a brand, these are now places people can go to, hang out and then buy into a dream”.
-E-commerce is also an area relatively new to the luxury brands in process of expansion. The Halston brand, for example, launched their new collection with e-commerce being the only point-of-sale. The items showcase in the runway could be shipped 24 hours after the runway show. This is a never-before seen event that could create big changes in the fashion industry. Designs from the runway shows are going to be accessible to the public must faster than has traditionally been the case at a lower cost to the retailer.
-New centres of luxury could emerge such as Japan (Tokyo), China and India. According to Paola Durante, director of Merrill Lynch, “In China there are 66 billionaires and this number is growing fast. In a short term, the Chinese will be the largest group of luxury consumers worldwide.”

Maternity lingerie

I've found this sexy maternity lingerie at the Agent Provocateur.com for my pregnant girlfriends always complaining about the "non-sexy/boring" maternity lingerie. Girls check the mom-to-be line out at http://www.agentprovocateur.com/maternity.php.
p.s. for the ones that never heard of Agent Provocateur, the owner of the British chain is married to Vivienne Westwood's soon....
p.s.2. After the baby is born no one feels sexy and in the mood for sex, but sexy lingerie can help boost your self-esteem to say the least. :)

Agent Provocateur FW 2008 ad campaign

I love this Agent Provocateur Fall Winter 2008 ad campaign showcasing Maggie Gyllenhaal. The dark, mysterious and intense mood give the ad a sexy spin.

Best of Sao Paulo Fashion Week SP 09 - 05

Triton presented an "Amy Whinehouse"-inspired collection based on the 80's punk rock style. The company created a main character called the "butterfly girl". I love the white dress with the butterfly cutout details.

-Movimento presented a jungle-inspired collection. The collection have shown floral printed fabrics, animal printed motiefs, mettalic buckle details and earthy tones colors.

Best of Sao Paulo Fashion Week SP 09 - 03

- Ellus brought to the spring 09 fashion week runway a massive fish tank where models would swam during the whole show. The fish tank symbolized the company's "underwater" theme collection.

Best of Sao Paulo Fashion Week SP 09 - 02

- Osklen: the collection was inspired by the spring rainny season. The main focus of the Osklen collection is to combine comfort with style creating a casual yet hip look, characteristics seen on the easy fit and light fabrics.

Best of Sao Paulo Fashion Week SP 09

- Forum by Tufi Duek: the Spring 09 collection was inspired by the Brazilian "lençois Maranhenses" rivers. The combination of sand, dunes, sky and water served as background to this light weighted, light colored collection where the women's body curves are the main focus.

SP 09 Gaultier asian-inspired printed dress

I love this Spring 09 Jean Paul Gaultier printed dress. I love the Asian-inspired print, the color and pattern combination creates a feminine yet fresh look. It is a great tip for next summer buys.
p.s. since it is hot outside, I've decided to skip the winter 08 trends for now, and and talk first about the Spring/Summer 09 pieces I like, this way you can have a better idea of what to buy on the current season that can be worn next season.:)

Tom Ford

Tom Ford was awarded with the menswear designer of the year prize of the Council of Fashion Designers of America’s (CFDA). Tom Ford’s label, launched last year, is recently new to the market place. The designer’s brand focuses on an extreme luxurious, head-to-toe men’s wardrobing and the strategy is to place the deluxe brand collection in stores that offered not just world-class tailoring, but an experience where the service, packaging and sales environment are as exceptional as the product.
For the ad campaign, the designer hired the controversial photographer Terry Richardson, know for his erotic imagery, to create a sensual/erotic campaign targeting its male audience. I think the ads are extremely controversial but genious, to say the least, it created a big buzz for the new collection. Although Europe is considered more "liberal"than America, the ads were banned by the Italian Advertising Institute for being too "vulgar" and for having scenes of "explicit sex"...GO FIGURE....

I LOVE these accessory shots because it portraits a 70's gueeky look with a hallucinogen/Wharol's factory feel.

New backless bra design

I think is genius the backless bra design created by Elaine Cato, the Nashville native who appeared on the ABC show “American Inventor” last June. Her 6-in-1 convertible bra didn’t win the grand prize but for sure will win the popularity among women’s. Who doesn’t own a backless top and have trouble finding the perfect bra to wear with?
